Rivers Casino

Rivers Casino Portsmouth today announced three local non-profit organizations as beneficiaries of the gaming and entertainment venue’s test night proceeds. The Virginia Lottery Board requires the casino to operate two real-money test nights, in which players may keep their winnings but any earnings are not retained by the casino.

This is to ensure that all gaming operations are performing as expected prior to Rivers Casino’s Jan. 15 grand opening date. The casino’s test nights are scheduled for Jan. 10 and Jan. 12, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Through “Rivers Gives,” the company’s ongoing community engagement program, the casino selected three charitable organizations that align with its corporate giving pillars focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion; public health; education; economic and community development; workforce development; Veteran support services; and public service.

Test night proceeds will benefit these local nonprofits:

As the region’s only hospital dedicated exclusively to young people, CHKD offers health, healing, and hope to all children and is committed to providing equitable and quality health services to improve the lives of children and the future of our community.

This non-governmental entity is the premier service organization of the United States military and their families in the region serving the largest concentration of military personnel in the country. The mission of the USOHRCV is to strengthen America’s military service members by keeping them connected to family, home, and country, throughout their service to the nation.

This community-based organization is one of Portsmouth’s oldest charities providing resources and support for urgent and unmet needs in underserved communities.

Due to the limited timeframe of active gaming on test nights, attendance is by invitation only. Guest lists for the two test nights have already been determined based on participating organizations. Donation amounts will be determined by the level of play, and each organization will receive an equal share of the combined two-day outcome.

“We look forward to our test nights as they position us one step closer to grand opening and reinforce our commitment to philanthropic initiatives in the region,” said Roy Corby, General Manager, Rivers Casino Portsmouth. “We’re eager to support these worthwhile charities and to provide a “sneak peek” at our world-class entertainment venue and all that it has to offer.”

Rivers Casino Portsmouth will open to the public on Sunday, Jan. 15, 2023, at 3 p.m.
